How does it feel when you earn first penny of your life?

Finally, at the age of 22, I started to earn in my life.I have started teaching Hindi to a German lady. The first day of my job was a fun.I made an assignment for my student and she praised my expertise in Hindi. There was a lot of fun going around with the pronunciation and I enjoyed it throughly.

JMET 2009 V/S JMET 2010

What a shot it was from JMET this year! For first 15 minutes, I couldn't understand what the paper was and ended up with just 4 questions. It was a U-turn from the last year's paper.Last year people attempted 105-110 questions easily, but this year 100 seems to be an insurmountable figure.

I attempted 85 questions in all.

VA/RC:The passages were difficult to comprehend as well as the options were damn closer as compared to the last year.Vocabulary questions were least used words.Overall the VA section was 50% difficult than last year's.

My attempts: 24

LEVEL:Moderate to Difficult

LR:This section was a bit tougher than last year's.But it was manageable.20-25 is a good attempt this section.Verbal Reasoning questions were trickier.LR questions were a life saver in this section with some printing mistakes, but that was manageable

My Attempts:22

LEVEL:Moderate

QA:This section was full of sitters as well as some speed breakers. The Calculus and Geometry were not there.

My Attempts:17

LEVEL:Moderate

DI:This section was the same as QA with few speed breakers like the one based on scatter chart.

My Attempts: 22

LEVEL:Moderate

OA: The paper was horrible as compared to the last year. The cut-offs are going to take a huge dive.

My Grand Total:85

Cut-off for IIT-B should be around 65-70

Another debacle!!!!!!!!!

I was really happy when I took IIFT-2009, but I was little apprehensive too about DI's cut-off.Today IIFT results have been declared and I missed the bus again.I have not got my name in the list of 1029 guys who made it into the next round.I felt shocked for a moment, but I regained my composure very soon and I am ready to take on the JMET challenge with all my might.

JMET 2009 Analysis

The paper has 4 sections having 30 questions each. The time allotted for doing these 120 questions was 180 minutes.Around 25000 thousand candidates take this exam every year. The paper has Verbal Communication, Logical Reasoning, quantitative ability and data interpretation as it's four sections.

Overall Analysis: I found the paper really easy.It has see and mark questions.

Verbal Communication: It has following splits:
1.RC: It has three RCs, each contains four questions.RCs are small, easy to read and direct.
2.Vocab Related questions:There are 8 questions based on vocabulary. The words are common.

3.Parajumble: There are 2 parajumbles in this section. These are real sitters.

4.Sentence Correction/grammar: There are 8 questions in this variety.

Optimum attempt-24-28

Logical Reasoning:It has following splits:
1.If-else type:There is a chapter called Logical Connectives in TIME's logical reasoning book. There are 4 questions based on this variety.Quite simple, if one is well equipped with its fundamentals

2.Parajumbles: This section, too, has three parajumbles. These are also sitters.

3.Venn diagram: Just one question.Simple.........

4.Parallel reasoning: One question.

5.Arrangement questions: There are 9 questions on this variety. Some mistakes were there in the data provided. But the questions were a real cake walk.

6.DS: One question

7. Which statement logically follows type of questions-2

8.Which course of action to be taken-2 questions

9.What has author assumed while making this statement-1 question

10.Three-four line paragraph and two questions are to be answered on the basis of this paragraph.Really Easy.....

11.Other variety: four questions were there in this category.

Optimal attempt:22-26

Quantitative Aptitude: 75% of the questions are sitters. They don't need more than one minute of thinking.Just see and answer. The topics covered are:
1.Integration
2.Percentage
3.Probability
4.Maxima-Minima
5.Venn Diagram etc. etc.

Optimal attempt-24-28

Data Interpretation:There are questions based on Tables, Pie-Charts, Percentage and blah-blah.
The questions are straight forward and require a cool approach.

Optimal attempt-26-28

In nut-shell, the paper is on the easier side and moreover time allotted is also astronomical.Hence the cut-offs are also on astronomical side.
Last year's Cut-off for getting a rank:67/120

How I approached the paper:

1.QA-29 minutes. Attempt-29,C-24,W-5,OA-22.75
2.reasoning-33 minutes.A-25,C-19,W-6,OA-17.50
3.English-30 minutes.A-28,C-24,W-4,OA-23.00
4.DI-37 minutes.A-29,C-26,W-3,OA-25.25
5.Buffer-51 minutes

Overall score-88.50/120

I hope this post will be useful to you.........

My date with CAT

I couldn't sleep well before my C- day.I was amidst a lot of rumors and apprehensions about the on-line CAT.I woke up at 6:30 a.m. and got ready for my second date with CAT.My center was Ansal Institute of Technology, Gurgaon. I reached there at 7:50 a.m. The entry started at 8:00 a.m.The Prometric guy frisked me from top to bottom. He gave me a token for the mobile which I left with them.I proceeded to lab number-5 where a lady was ready with finger printing device.Surprise!!!!The device was not able to read my finger prints. Then another lady came and checked my fingers. But all in vain. Then I was taken for photograph. They used a web cam. Then I was seated on the seat number-6.It was my photo on the screen. I was bound to sit there for next 1 and a 1/2 hour. The loo was open for use till 9:30.The Prometric guys gave 2 pencils, 1 eraser and four scratch sheets. At 10:00 a.m., the test stared. It was a pretty smooth process. There was no noise.I would like to comment on the paper

1.QA-It was the easiest section of the three.A guy with good enough preparation could attempt at least 10-12 questions. The questions were direct and I must say you would have met them in your journey to CAT-09.
My Attempt-15-16
Expected Correct-12-14

2.DI-DI -was time consuming, reasoning questions in particular. There were lengthy questions in reasoning and just 1 question.DI sets were easy to comprehend, but care must be taken because options are very close and you may fall prey to this.DS questions were also okay.
Attempts-16-17
Expected Correct-10-12(minimum)

3.VA/RC-I don't know why, but it seemed me a bit on the tougher side. There were 3-4 RCs, pretty straight ones(as that of IIFT).The RCs were pretty short with 2 or 4 questions The questions were scattered which include PJ, word usage, paragraph completion and most inappropriate use of a word.Everything was included in VA.

Attempts-16-17
Expected Correct-Don't know (May be 8-9)

With +3, -1 marking scheme
I would peg the cut-offs as
QA-27-28
VA-22-23
DI-25-26
OA-85+

CAT goes berserk

The MBA Entrance Exam season has started with the CAT going berserk. The online CAT exam was the worst mismanaged exam I have come across till date.About a dozen centers nationwide have cancelled the exam due to server breakdown.About 2000 aspirants were stranded in the bizarre situation. Many students from the hinterlands were in the exam cities. They were staying in the hotels and inns. What was the mistake of these guys who were made to suffer the glitches in the server. The CAT authorities should have conducted a mock drill to anticipate the load on the server before the exam. This incident has tarnished the image of the most coveted B-school.
The aspirants who have missed the exam should be resilient and be ready for the technical glitches in the coming days.I request the Prometric guys to be professionals.
I have a appointment with the CAT on 1 Dec.I hope that it goes well.

A portray of Mahatma's life

This is my first blog which I wrote on 2 Oct, 2009.There might be some glitches in my article. The article is not intended to hurt the feelings of the reader. This is what I think about Mahatma.
It is an auspicious day and I would like to introduce a different Mahatma Gandhi to you.I have read his autobiography-'My Experiments with Truth' and this book has completely changed my thinking towards this greatest man.I would like to share some of the astonishing facts about his life which will make you read this fabulous book.Mahatma Gandhi accepted that he made it into the brothel at the age of 12 years. He accepted that he got married at the age of 13 and was filled with lust(not love) for his wife.He also blamed himself for his father's death as he was entrapped in lust even when his father was on death bed.He got into the bad company in teenage and started smoking and eating non-veg.He used to smoke the stubs of the cigarettes left by his uncle. When he didn't find the stubs,he explored the greens and discovered a plant whose leaves he used to smoke. These are the things so private and concealed that never come out and die with us.But the best thing that attracted me was his love for the truth.
Mahatma Gandhi got the chance to study in England at the age of 18(1887).He was Vaishnava and his caste Ayatollahs considered the foreign study as a blasphemy. They said that he would be shown the road out of the caste if he dared to visit England. But Mahatma didn't gave up and he was thrown out of the caste. His main motive was the lure of the foreign country, but not the barrister study. He tried his hands on dancing and some musical instruments also for attracting the English babes.Till now, he was so mediocre that he was not even able to put forth his views. He did a lot of study about the vegetarianism and associated himself with different theosophical and vegetarian societies. He accepted that he gained but nothing from the study in England.
He used to doze off when he practiced in Bombay High Court. His life was without a rudder until the age of 25.Then the climax was ready for this man.He got a call from a South African merchant whose case was pending in a court there for years. The job of Gandhi was just the clerical work, nothing else.Mahatma capitalized on this hazy opportunity and set off to SA.He won the heart of everybody and won the case for his client through his diplomatic skills. In the bloom of youth, Mahatma used to dress up as a European. He used to travel by the first class. He was travelling to Durban in the first class coach,he was thrown out of the train at the Pretoria station as the blacks were not allowed to relish the first class.I think, this was the point of time where Gandhi started his journey from Gandhi to Mahatma Gandhi. He called up a meeting for all the merchants and indentured laborers who were settled there permanently and asked them to pass a resolution to make an independent body that would work for the rights of the blacks and named it NATAL NATIONAL CONGRESS.
He got a lot of laws remitted that were anti-black, just through his diplomacy.I think he was a great manager too.He was the part of countless societies and organizations. He used to have a day of 240 hours. He was so much devoted to the public work that he didn't pay any heed to the needs of his wife and son.He used to say that self-help is the greatest help and everybody should try to do his own work.He was weighed in pounds, gold, jewels and other precious gifts when he was leaving for India after his memorable sojourn in South Africa. He returned everything back, his wife resisted that he should keep something for his daughters-in-law.He retorted that I won't make them dependent on this public fund.So he deposited all the money into the coffers of NATAL NATIONAL CONGRESS.His soul was immaculate, but I am deeply pained when they say that Mahatma was the man who conspired India's division. But these poor fellows don't know that this greatest man stuck to what he believed and he got us the freedom after a long battle.
Now I would like to narrate some of the funniest moments of Mahatma's life which I couldn't resist and broke into the laughter. He used to cut his own hair.He got it good enough from the front, but it was ruin played by the aliens on the backside. When he entered the courtroom,Mahatma was humiliated for his eccentricity and he became the laughing stock of everybody.Once, his wife was emasculated and was anticipating yamraj. She was left with doctors in the hospital and Mahatma left for public work(he didn't stop public work even for his family and that's why he is called Mahatma). The doctor wired to Mahatma and said that your wife would die,if she wasn't given the beef tea.But beef was against his principles, so he refused and said that he was coming by the first train to take his wife away. When he reached the hospital, Mrs. Gandhi was already guzzling beef tea.Mahatma was petrified and couldn't speak anything for 5 minutes. Then he said,"Doctor! you have deceived me and I feel shattered. You shouldn't have done this when I had refused already."The doctor said that I would not allow my patient to die just to protect your principles.
Mahatma had a firm belief that earth mixed with water was fit for the treatment of 99% diseases. After the beef incident, Mahatma took his wife to Phoenix(farm house of Mahatma and his co-workers).He used to apply wet earth on her forehead. You believe it, or, not, she was fit again within a few weeks when the doctor was saying that she would die without beef tea.He also saved two patients from the Black Plague who could had been cured with brandy only.It was the use of the wet earth by the Mahatma which saved the lives.I can guarantee that no doctor would allow you to go on with just the wet earth, when you are counting your last breaths. When you will read this book, then you will find that he was made of divine soil.
The world is like a genie whose job is to give you what you ask.It is something like law of gravitation.Anything you wish already exists in this world, you just need to call it forth and it is all yours. But stop, the gravitational force created by a small object is so negligible that you can hardly feel any movement. So your love for the thing you wish to own should be as pure as Mahatma.
It is 12:45 and 2nd October is gone which I chose as the perfect day to unveil a new Mahatma to you.Let us all exhilarate the soul of Mahatma by imbibing some of his virtues, if not all.
